John Frederick Olsen II July 19, 1982- March 23, 2020
John was born in Portland Oregon but shortly thereafter moved to Bainbridge Island where he and his parents lived on the sailboat Neverland in Eagle Harbor. He grew up entirely on Bainbridge Island attending Ordway and Wilkes as well as Sakai and Christ the King in Poulsbo. “JO” as a young man was a cub scout, a volunteer, a sailor, a musician, an athlete and a true lifelong friend to those he grew up with and stayed close to all his life. He commuted to Seattle Prep for high school where he played golf and soccer and excelled academically. John was an excellent athlete and played all-star baseball, soccer, and basketball but in seventh grade, he found a passion for golf. He competed in Washington Junior Golf Association events and for 4 varsity years on the Seattle Prep team. John learned to golf at Wing Point where he had many friends both young and old and could just as often be found talking with a senior member on the driving range as playing cutthroat sevens with his fellow junior golfers. On graduation from Prep,.he attended Seattle Central and Western Washington University and worked in the construction trades and at Wing Point. He was a musician who had a beautiful voice and played the saxophone, the guitar, and the piano. He was an avid reader and a gifted mime who entertained with his celebrity impressions such as Sean Connery and Steven Segal. He wrote and sang his own music and loved to watch jeopardy and compare his knowledge with that of the contestants- favorably more often than not. John’s kindness and generosity and humor are remembered by all who knew him. .He was also deeply spiritual and attended several Bainbridge churches where he loved to join the chorus in song. The night he mercifully passed a lone eagle circled over the house and he found a peace he hadn’t had for several years. He passed quickly surrounded by his loving family. John was too pure a spirit for this world. He is survived by his parents Paul and Louise Cullen and his brother Quinn. A service will be planned this summer. Donations can be made in his name to the Treatment Advocacy Center Washington chapter.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, WA.
