was the loving husband of Cindy Benson McGregor and father of John Robert, David and Katherine McGregor. He was proud grandfather to Ethan, Leah, and Kenneth. He will be loved " ‘till all the seas gang dry".John was born on May 25, 1927 and was 80 years of age. He passed away at home on Bainbridge Island, WA.He was analytical, compassionate and a gentleman in every sense. John grew up in Hooper on the Palouse country ranch that his ancestors pioneered. As Chairman of McGregor Land & Livestock from 1956 to 1998, and CEO of McGregor Feedlot, he was an innovative leader in what has been reported as "one of the last of the independent, self-contained ‘family empires' that built the American West." He served on the Board of Directors of a number of organizations, among them Seattle First National Bank for over 30 years, and NW Livestock Producers Credit Association. He was a Trustee for Whitman College. After retirement, he would often visit the Palouse ranch in what he called "the status of a steer in the bull pasture, acting only in an advisory capacity". A memorial celebrating his life will be held at St. John's Cathedral, 127 East 12th Avenue, Spokane on April 4, 2008 at 2:00 pm.Remembrances may be made to Planned Parenthood of Central Washington, to the Kitsap County Humane Society, or to the Pacific Legal Foundation.Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
