79, of Bainbridge Island Washington died at home on December 30, 2008, of mesothelioma.He was a naval engineer. He was born on January 18th, 1929, the second son of Herman and Gussie Fox, and he grew up in Mt. Kisco New York. He was educated in the University of Michigan and in the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He served twenty three years in the U.S. Navy, retiring in 1974 as a Captain. After retirement from the Navy, he worked in Richland Washington on energy projects and since 1983 in the Puget Sound area as a naval engineer. He worked for Art Anderson Associates until 1996 and then as an independent consultant, specializing in ferry design, construction and operation. He was associated with many projects involving high speed ferries. After retirement, he volunteered at Helpline House and the Bainbridge Public Library. He is survived by two children of his first marriage, Christopher Fox of Woodinville Washington, Elizabeth Fox and her husband Gerhard Nicklas, of Kastl, Germany and Taos, New Mexico, his brother Kal in Connecticut, several neices and nephews, his frequent companion and dear friend Joan Collins, and Fergus, his Shetland Sheep dog who was his constant companion. His first wife, Jane Swift Fox, died in 1991. His second wife, Jeannette Love Fox died in 2005.He was a communicant of St. Barnabas Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island. He played the bagpipes in several pipe bands including The Desert Thistles in Tri Cities and The Tacoma Scots Pipe Band and he belonged to several professional naval engineering societies. His other joys were gardening, history, and the cultures of Scotland and Norway. Ken treasured and valued his friendships and he leaves many close friends world wide and especially on Bainbridge Island.A Memorial Service will be held at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 1187 Wyatt Way NW, Bainbridge Island, WA. 98110 (Directions), on Friday, January 9, 2009 at 1:00 PM.. Inurnment will follow at the church cemetery. A reception will be held in the church hall. His favorite charities were World Vision, Oxfam, Mercy Corps, Northwest Harvest, and The Humane Society.
