Larry William Ashe

February 8, 1936 — February 5, 2020

Larry William Ashe of Poulsbo, Washington, passed away on February 5, 2020. He would have turned 84 on February 8, 2020. He was born in Los Angeles, California to William Montgomery Ashe and Bernice (Parker) Ashe. He was the eldest of 5 children, Janet Ashe (Smith), James Montgomery Ashe, Carole Ashe (Brown) and William Montgomery Ashe, Jr. He is preceded in death by his brother William and his sister Janet.

Larry had a very unusual and interesting life. He was in the Marines when he met the love of his life. He married Doris on December 2, 1956. They spent 62 wonderful years together until Doris' passing in 2018. During their life together they had three children, Larry Lee (wife Pam), Sharon Lorene (husband Elray) and Robert William (wife Kristen). They were also blessed with five grandchildren, Ashely Marie, Garrison William, Amanda Rose, Alicia Lorene and Sarah Lorraine. They were also given two great granddaughters, Elizabeth Lorene and Gabriela Rose. He was also very excited to be welcoming a third great granddaughter in 2020. They were very proud of all of them and loved them very much.

After discharging from the Marines he and Doris settled into civilian life. His various jobs included Riverside Police officer, milkman, postal worker before beginning his career as a General Foreman constructing bridges. He was very good at doing the construction and enjoyed it very much. On October 12, 1970, he was locking up for the day when a crane operator hit the high tension wires and electrocuted Larry because of this accident it was necessary to amputate his left hand and his left foot. He was 34 years old. Larry was a fighter though and did not let this keep him from living a very active and enjoyable life. He took to his new prosthetics to the point where he could do anything he used to do. He was always a Mr. Fix-It and the amputation didn't hinder that at all. He could fix anything, cars, appliances, roofs, anything.

He lived with Doris in Riverside, California for most of their lives. They moved to Poulsbo in 2006 and enjoyed living there very much. Larry was a very personable person. He treated everyone he met with friendly humor and kindness. He had a very boisterous laugh and laughed often. He made the most out of everyday he had with unstoppable strength and conviction.

Larry is survived by his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, his brother Jim and sister Carole.
