passed away on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at home on Bainbridge Island, Washington, after a two-year battle with cancer.Leigh was born Sheree Leigh Stubblefield in Richmond, Virginia on March 29, 1957. She grew up in Kentucky and Tennessee, and lived most of her adult life on Bainbridge Island and in North Bend, Washington. Curious, adventurous, and dynamic, Leigh was a free spirit with boundless interests and a bottomless reading list. Among many other things, Leigh was a lifelong dancer, a questioner, a sci-fi fan and Trekkie, a great writer and author of four books, and an incomparable mother and friend.She was predeceased by her parents, James Stubblefield and Margaret Rouse Stubblefield. She is survived by her children, Matt and Jordan of Bainbridge Island; her brother Lynn of Morristown, Tennessee; and her aunt and uncle, among others.There will be a memorial evening at Grace Episcopal Church, 8595 NE Day Rd, Bainbridge Island, on June 22nd at 6:00 p.m. Please wear something purple.Leigh was deeply moved by the plight of wild elephants, which may be extinct in Africa within 15 years at the current rate of poaching and slaughter. She had hoped to leave an endowment behind for the preservation of these incredibly complex and unique animals.
