Leland M. Stearns

March 21, 1950 — January 28, 2019

Lee (Leland) passed away on January 28 with his wife Sharon at his side. Lee was born in Federal Way To Leland Stearns and Naomi Jackson Stearns. As a young boy Lee spent many hours on Bainbridge Island with his Dad who operated vessels in Alaska for the Mirkovich family of Bainbridge. It was always Lee's dream to live here and he and Sharon found their log cabin in the woods, moving here in 1992.
Lee put himself through UW fishing in Alaska in summers & as a singing waiter at the Holiday Inn at 5eaTac. He remained an ardent Husky fan to the end and for many years "dragged" his wife, a loyal Cornhusker, To every home football game.
Starting out as a Tour Escort in the Canadian Rockies and Alaska for West Tours, Lee would later spend 21 years at Holland America Line, as Manager of Ships Services for much of that Time.
Lee and Sharon went to sea, working on cruise ships around the world for nearly 10 years.
Lee is survived by his wife Sharon, daughter Lara (Sam), son David (Crystal), his 4 beloved grandchildren, Lola, Talisyn, Ava and Damon, sister Marlene Stearns and many nieces and nephews.
Lee asked for his ashes To be "put out To sea" & since he was a lifelong Seattleite and long Time ferry commuter we will be scattering his ashes in Puget Sound from one of The .Seattle to Bainbridge ferries.
A memorial service will be held for Lee on Saturday February 2, 2019 at 2 PM at Cook Family Funeral Home 163 Wyatt Way NE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.
