LeRoy "Lee" Alvin Meister went home to be with his Savior on November 8, 2018. Lee was born August 27, 1932 in Verdi Township, Minnesota, moving to Leavenworth, WA, with his family when he was still in school, graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1950.
Lee enlisted in the Air Force, in 1952, and served 4 years during the Korean War, where he developed his mechanic's skills. After being discharged from the Air Force, he went on to own a service station in Seattle. Lee then went on to work as a federal civil servant for several federal agencies. Lee retired from federal civil service in 1992, after 30 years of service. Lee retired as a Machinist Supervisor and "Plank Owner" from, the formerly named, Trident Refit Facility, Bangor. Lee then started his own tree service and sawmilling business and spent eight years climbing, trimming, cutting and removing trees. Lee sold the business, but continued working for the new owner. Lee climbed his last tree when he was 74 years old, then spent many years working on the ground keeping the equipment in good order, until fully retiring in 2015.
Lee met the love of his life, Donna, whom he married in April 1962. Their first home together was in the Shoreline area of Seattle. This is where their three children were born. In the winter of 1974, the family moved to Poulsbo, WA, to the farm where they raised their three children and numerous pets and livestock.
Lee was a devout follower of God, a loving husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend to many. He will be missed by those left behind. Lee never met a stranger and was always ready to give out a hug to whomever needed one. Lee and Donna had been long time members of the First Lutheran Church of Poulsbo and are currently members of Port Madison Lutheran Church, Bainbridge Is.
Lee was preceded in death by his parents, Garret and Minnie Meister; his sister, Velma Corey; his brother, Donald; and daughter, Tracy Meister. Lee is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Donna; children, Tami (Gary) Baker, Mark (Angie), and David (Zo); grandchildren, Jerry, Ana-Maria, Dumitra Baker; Jane, Sven, Nicklaus, and Kate Meister; nieces, Marsha Evans and Susan (Joe) Maryonow; nephews, Mike (Laura) and Danny Evans; and close family friends the Kriewald and Vail families.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, November 23rd at the Port Madison Lutheran Church, located at 14000 Madison Ave NE, Bainbridge Is. All are welcome to come celebrate Lee's life.
