passed away on Monday, September 17, 2007 at Martha & Mary Health Services in Poulsbo, Washington. She was 91 years of age.She was born January 1, 1916 in Philipsburg, PA to Fred and Gertrude Humphrey. She graduated from Philipsburg High School and the Philipsburg Hospital School of Nursing with an RN degree. She worked at the Philipsburg Hospital where she met her future husband, Walter W. Janke. He was one of her patients. They both moved to Erie, PA where she worked at Hamot Hospital. They were married on January 6, 1940 in Erie. Six years later they moved to Philipsburg so that Walter could help his father, Gust, in the family business that became Janke's Meats. In 1952 they moved to Winburne, PA where they lived until Walter's death in 1997.Louise set aside her career to raise her children. After they were grown she went back to work at the Presbyterian Home in Philipsburg and then at Mountain Laurel Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Clearfield, PA where she was the nursing supervisor. She loved her work and reluctantly retired in 1975. After her husband's death, Louise moved to Bainbridge Island to live with her daughter, Susan. She made a new life for herself by becoming involved in the Bainbridge Island Senior Center where she made many new friends.Louise was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Fred and Donald and her husband. She is survived by the following; Children: Nancy (Jim) Bamberger, Lititz, PA, William (Judy) Janke, Woodbridge, VA; Susan (Robin) Boone, Bainbridge Island, WA, Julie (Mike) Bishop, Cookeville, TN, Anthony (Carrie) Janke, Philipsburg, PA; Grandchildren: Mona (Jon) McDowell, Diana (Lee) Pollock, Mike (Barbara) Coudriet, Christopher (Tammy) Janke, Stephen (Michelle) Janke, Emma (Mike) Neal, Schuyler Boone, Amy Janke, Lori Janke; 14 Great-grandchildren and 2 Great-great-grandchildren.A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, October 7, 2007 at 2:00 PM at the Winburne Presbyterian Church in Winburne, PA. Memorial contributions can be made to the Bainbridge Island Senior Center or the Winburne Presbyterian Church."It may be that death's bright angel will speak in that chord again.
