94, of Bainbridge Island passed on March 21, 2008 after a short stay at Sunrise Haven, Kent, WA.He retired from the US Air Force after having served as a communications officer on General MacArthur's staff in the Philippines in WWII beginning with the bombing of those islands immediately after Pearl Harbor. He went on to serve in Germany and then the Pentagon where he was instrumental in establishing our first communications in space. Colonel Heald liked to refer to his having been born on a Texas cotton farm. One of 11 siblings, he began his education in a country school house and through hard work and self-reliance went on to graduate from Texas Tech University with a degree in journalism, and later earned his master's degree in business administration from George Washington University in Washington, DC. He was an earnest student of Christian Science and was known as a very kind and generous man who helped many good causes to prosper. He was extremely interested in people and was known as a kind and encouraging friend.He is survived by his wife Danielle Heald, several stepchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his daughter, Brenda Vanags.At his request no service will be held.
