Lucille Margaret (Million) Salter

d. May 8, 2015

passed peacefully away on May 8th 2015. She was born August 31st, 1921 in Ballard, WA to Thomas Wilber (Webb) Million and Anna Marie Peterson. She had no sisters or brothers to grow-up with, but had many Norwegian "Peterson" cousins. She was so proud of that heritage and even marched in the Ballard Drill Team. Those famous Norwegian smorgasbords were always among the highlights of the holiday seasons. She graduated from Ballard High School in 1939. On September 12th, 1942 she married James Leland Salter. They were married for 61 years until his passing on April 1st, 2003.Lucille is survived by her three daughters and two sons: Jane L. Westerfield (Wes) of Bellingham, WA; Margaret Ann Brookhart of St. Marie's, ID; Mary Lou Salter of Seattle, WA; James M. Salter (Terri) of Port Townsend, WA; and Robert J. Salter (Judy) of Seattle, WA. There are ten grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren and one on the way and numerous nieces and nephews (who affectionately referred to her as "Auntie Cile"). Jim and Lucille were also foster parents for many children through the years. In addition to parenting, Lucille worked as a telephone operator with Pacific Northwest Bell and a number of other jobs on the island. Many of her summer weekends were spent camping on the Olympic Peninsula with her family. For most of her adult life she was an active member of the 1st Church of Christ Scientist on Bainbridge Island. Lucille's beliefs sustained her. She lived a life full of quiet adventures, humor, and love. Her family would like to express their gratitude to the many people who loved and cared for Lucille in her final years, especially the last one where she resided at the Wyatt House. Neighbors, friends, family, and staff provided such wonderful comfort and lovingly tended to her needs. For so many people she truly was "one in a million".At her request, there will be no service. The family will privately celebrate both her life and her husband's at a gathering this summer.Memorials may be made to the 1st Church of Christ Scientist on Bainbridge Island or a charity of your choice.
