Margaret Anne Grimes

d. February 20, 2015

Margaret Anne Grimes, formerly of Bainbridge Island, passed on while surrounded by her family in Poulsbo, Washington on February 20, 2015. She was born on December 11, 1926 in Montclair, New Jersey. She created lasting enjoyment for us with her photography and printmaking; her painting, sculpture, and ceramics; her sewing, knitting, needlepoint, and embroidery. She enjoyed the company of her family, her friends, and her dogs, and she entertained us with her sense of humor. She filled her house and yard with flowers, and she often had something baking.Peggy furthered her learning at every opportunity -- not only with her degree from Stony Brook University in New York, but also with her pursuit of knowledge as a master gardener and a dog trainer. She and her husband Joe attended various Elderhostel programs, engaging in hiking and adventure on lakes, in the mountains, at the coast, at the theater. She loved poetry, Shakespeare, and music. She was an avid reader and doer of crossword puzzles. She was an instructor for the Coast Guard Auxiliary on Long Island, where she taught navigation. Her photography and sculpture were shown in galleries in Northport, New York; Portland, Oregon; and Sacramento, California. She traveled with her husband and children to many sites of natural beauty in the U.S. and Canada and was always thrilled with the eagles.Peggy is survived by her husband of 68 years, Joseph; her sister Dorothy Haas; her daughter Marilyn (James) DeRoy; her sons Mark and Christopher (Barbara Brenner); grandsons Sean and Devin Grimes; nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents John and Dorothy Waldron of Montclair, New Jersey, and by her brothers Tom, Jack, and Robert Waldron. She always had time for us, and she made our lives rich. A remembrance gathering was held by family and friends. For her husband's 80th birthday, Peggy wrote: Eighty fireflies light my path. You take my hand and lead me to a star.
