passed away on Sunday, February 27, 2011 at Martha and Mary Care Center in Poulsbo, Washington. She was born on November 14, 1912 and was 98 years of age.Born Margrethe Rasmussen in Copenhagen, Denmark, (Grethe) attended Aarhus University and trained as a kindergarten teacher in Germany. She graduated from Froebel Seminary in Copenhagen, where she was one of the first certified kindergarten teachers. She taught in Denmark until her marriage in 1940 to Hugo Bang-Knudsen, during the German occupation. She gave birth to two children both during World War II.Hugo and Grethe immigrated to USA settling in Oakland, Stockton, and Concord, California. Grethe participated in the family business until retirement. She moved to Bainbridge Island to live with family in 1999. She was active in Bethany Lutheran Church.She is survived by: Son Peter Bang-Knudsen, Sr. (wife Jill), Daughter Karen Keith (husband Warren Bedell), Granddaughter Lisa Rasmussen (husband William Cash), Grandsons Peter Bang-Knudsen, Jr., Paul Bang-Knudsen ( Erin),and Jacob Bang-Knudsen (Melissa). Great- grandchildren Graham and Elliott Cash, Peter Bang-Knudsen III, William Bang-Knudsen, Mathias Bang-Knudsen, Hanne Bang-Knudsen. In lieu of flowers: Grethe Bang-Knudsen Memorial, Bethany Lutheran Church, 7968 Finch Road NE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.
