Marguerite Palma Freeman

Early Monday morning, Marguerite Freeman passed away peacefully at the Madrona House on Bainbridge Island. 
Marge radiated faith and love. She touched so many with her smile and positive attitude. In preparation for the next life, in perfect cursive, she shared this with her family: "Take care for God has called me home; To each of you whom I love, I wish peaceful hearts from our Savior above."
One of nine children born to Arthur and Elda Leidholm, Marge was raised on the family farm outside of Washburn, North Dakota. After graduating from Washburn High, she followed her brothers to Seattle. There she eventually joined the war effort as a "Rosie the Riveter" working on the B-17 production line for the Boeing Company. On a night out on the town, she and a girlfriend invited a pesky Sailor, throwing popcorn, to join their table. The result: a brief courtship and marriage to Donald Eugene Freeman on July 15, 1946 at Gethsemane Lutheran Church in Seattle.
As a Navy wife she travelled the United States and the world, raising three sons born in California and Japan. After Don's retirement from the Navy, the family returned to the Northwest, settling on Bainbridge Island. There she volunteered at her beloved Bethany Lutheran Church and worked the counter at the local Sears Roebuck catalog store.
The intervening years, before Don's death in 1991, brought many U-Hauls and roundtrips to Yuma, Arizona, but Marge always came home to Bainbridge. In retirement, she continued her work at Bethany Lutheran, while also volunteering her time and patience at the front desk of Helpline House.
Marge was preceded in death by her husband, Don and daughter, Connie.  She is survived by her children, Terry (Chris) of Stanwood, WA; Mark (Lynn) of Bainbridge Island, WA and Don (Garo) of New York; and grandchildren, Jenifer, Mitch, CJ, Kyle, Peter, and Liana.  Also, 9 great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at Bethany Lutheran Church on Bainbridge Island, Friday, June 29th at 1:00.
