a longtime Chattanooga, Tennessee resident passed away on Tuesday, October 16, 2012 on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She was born on October 27, 1923 in Lookout Mountain, Tennessee.She graduated from Chattanooga High School and attended the University of Chattanooga. She retired from Provident Life and Accident Insurance Company and was a member of the Red Bank Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught Sunday school and kindergarten.Marian is survived by her husband of 69 years, Stanley F. Kirkpatrick, of Bainbridge Island, WA, children; Katie Brown (Larry) of Bainbridge Island and Tom Kirkpatrick (Laura) of Wilton, CT. She also leaves behind her grandsons Thomas Kirkpatrick of Chicago, Illinois and Taylor Kirkpatrick of New York City along with numerous nieces and nephews. Marian was preceded in death by her parents; Henry L. Massey and Helen C. Massey and siblings; William N. Massey, Henry L. Massey, Jr. and Louise M. Holmes.Marian was also affectionately known as Granny or Aunt Marian and is remembered for her love of family and friends, her beautiful flower gardens and delicious southern cooking. She was famous for her family gatherings on Thanksgiving and Christmas where warmth and love were served along with an abundance of good food and laughter. Marian would seek out the good in all people and many were blessed with her love and encouragement.A Memorial Service was held on Friday, October 19, 2012 at the Rolling Bay Presbyterian Church on Bainbridge Island. Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association or the Franciscan Hospice of Tacoma, Washington. Please sign the online Guest Book for the family.
