(also known as Marilyn Gaskell) passed away on October 30, 2016 of complications from Primary Progressive Aphasia.Marilyn, the only child of Floyd and Frances Murphy, was born in Seattle on November 18, 1938. A 1956 graduate of West Seattle High School, she then attended Western Washington State College for two years and went on to earn a Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology from the University of Washington. While at the University she played the saxophone in the Husky Marching Band.After graduation she joined the US Public Health Service and served two tours in South Vietnam (1963-65 and 1966-68) with the USPHS Agency for International Development creating and operating medical laboratories. Subsequently she worked with medical researchers at the Fred Hutchinson Research Center in Seattle.A woman of many interests, Marilyn volunteered at the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum and the Bainbridge Island Waterfront Community Center "Chuck Wagon" program.At her request there will be no service and her ashes will be dispersed in Rich Passage which she viewed from her Bainbridge Island home of 44 years.Remembrances can be made to the Bainbridge Island Historical Society or the Bainbridge Island Waterfront Community Center.
