Marina Satori Miller, 14, beloved daughter of David and Nicole Miller and sister of Makena, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly in a car accident on Bainbridge Island, WA on March 16th, 2021. Marina was born in Edmonds, WA on June 7th, 2006, and moved to Bainbridge Island with her family when she was 2 years old.
She attended elementary school at Wilkes and also the Spanish Immersion program at Commodore and Ordway. She attended intermediate school at Sakai and middle school at Woodward. She was a Freshmen at Bainbridge Island High School and an active member on many sports teams.
Marina began playing soccer at the Bainbridge Island Football Club as a “tiny tot”. She continued to play soccer with the club throughout her life. She started on the Bainbridge Island Girls Lacrosse team when she was in 1st grade and continued to play throughout middle school, she was looking forward to playing on the Bainbridge Island High School team with her older sister. Her interest in volleyball began in 6th grade, the next year she excitedly joined the Woodward Middle School team. She fell in love with volleyball and joined the Olympic Premier Volleyball Club team for 2 years. She also recently joined the School of Volleyball and played up with the U17 girls. She was known for her positive attitude, skills, and unwavering support for her teammates.
Marina grew up spending her summers in Naknek, Alaska during the fishing seasons, celebrating “cannery birthdays” with many loving fishing industry family friends. She enjoyed fishing with her family every year and was known to always catch the biggest fish despite being the youngest. Summer days were full of badminton competitions on the front lawn, where Marina shined and was known to beat everyone. She loved to travel and was considered savvy and incredibly observant while navigating NYC grand central station, Paris and Japan train stations, and the London Underground with ease. She loved to ski during the winters in Canada and also felt at home and loved Maui, Hawaii where she would swim in the ocean, glistening with the biggest smile on her face.
To know Marina is to laugh, to love, and to be inspired by her generous acts of kindness. She had a gentle and humble nature, but she was driven to work hard at school, and she was quietly but fiercely competitive with her sports. She had so many dreams. She had an infectious sense of humor and was surrounded by laughter. Above all, she cared deeply for family and friends whom she loved and who loved her beyond measure. She will be deeply and forever missed.
Marina personified all things beautiful in this world. She was happy, loving, empathic, and generous to everyone she encountered. She loved a broad variety of music genres and played the violin in her early years. She was deeply rooted in family values and loved creating holiday traditions through her cooking and baking creations and celebrated those she loved with handmade and incredibly thoughtful cards. She was a loyal, supportive, comforting, fun, and trustworthy friend to many. She was known for her glowing smile, her warm demeanor, and clever sense of humor. When she looked to the future, she always expressed that no matter what she did, she wanted to help others. She found so much joy in her service work, from reading books to the elderly at the Bainbridge Island Senior community centers, to distributing sandwiches for the homeless in Seattle, to winter coat drives for Treehouse Foster kids, and many more heartfelt acts of service.
