Marjorie A. Van Duym

died March 4 at the University of Washington Medical Center. She died of a sudden two-month battle with a rare disorder of the immune system.Margie was born April 15, 1935 and grew up in Cut Bank, Mont. She graduated from high school in 1954 and went on to Montana State University in Bozeman, where she met and married Robert Barnard. She raised four children: Cheri, Steve, Paul and Julie. She lost her sons Steve, who died in a car accident, and Paul, who died of cancer. She married a second time to Hidde Van Duym in The Hague, Netherlands in 1993.She worked as administrative assistant in the President's Office of The Evergreen State College, the Washington Commission for the Humanities and Sisters of Providence. She was a dedicated gardener, a skilled worker with fabrics, and a talented designer who often advised her artist husband with his artwork. She loved to dance. She was a generous and caring friend and her unexpected death is deeply felt by all who knew her.Survivors are husband, Hidde Van Duym; daughters, Cheri Lesh of Olympia and Julie Barnard of New York; sister, Doris Mauland of Rapelje, Mont.; brother, Floyd Thomas of Kalispell Mont.; grandchildren, Casey Hulbert of Kirkland, Shannon Mojica of Olympia, Evan Lesh of Redmond, Mandy Householder of Ismay, Mont.; and stepson, Michel Van Duym of Boulder, Colo.Donations may be made to BI Helpline House.
