died April 6, 2013 on Bainbridge Island.Carol was born May 15, 1922, in San Francisco, California, to William F. and Alma (Olander) Kirschbaum.She was Queen of the Rodeo at the 1940 San Francisco World's Fair, after winning a contest which also brought her horse Treasure, the palomino she rode in the Fair. Carol earned a scholarship to Heald Business College in San Francisco, and on graduation worked for Southern Pacific Railway, where she met Roy S. Nash. They were married on Sept. 6, 1942, and stayed in love through 70 years of marriage. After their marriage, Carol worked a secretary to the San Francisco Postmaster, then as a dedicated Army wife and mother in France, Pakistan and Okinawa and half a dozen stateside assignments. She was active in Officers' wives clubs.When Roy retired from the Army in 1970, they settled in San Francisco. In 1979, they moved to Bainbridge island, where their daughter Nancy Nash Quitslund and her family had settled. On Bainbridge, Carol was a volunteer teacher's aide, and was active in Seabold Methodist Church and Crop Walk. She and Roy also traveled extensively visiting family and friends and researching family history.Carol was very dedicated to her family. She was a very social person who enjoyed being an emotional support to many people.She leaves her beloved husband Roy, daughters Carolyn Nash and Nancy Nash Quitslund (Dana), granddaughters Rebecca Young Andrusiak (John), Beth Quitslund (Andrew Escobedo), and Sarah Quitslund Milton (Brandon), great-grandchildren Roy, Katharine, Garey, Sofia, Ian, Ford, and Chance, her brother William F. Kirschbaum (Paulette Frelat) and "adopted" granddaughters Saethra and Jennifer. She was preceded in death by her sister Dorothy (Kirschbaum) Frisella.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Memorial Service at 2:00 p.m., April 20, at Seabold United Methodist Church on Bainbridge Island.
