Martin A Mirkovich, Jr.

December 25, 1939 — August 11, 2023

Martin Anthony Mirkovich, 83, of Bainbridge Island died on August 11th, 2023. Martin was born in Seattle, WA on December 25, 1939 to Martin and Christine Mirkovich. He took great pride in his Croatian heritage and in being a lifelong resident of Ward Ave. in the Eagledale neighborhood on Bainbridge Island.


During high school he worked on his family's commercial fishing boat, the Sonny Boy, and valued his

experiences in the Bering Sea. He shared great stories of the lessons he learned while working alongside his dad and uncles.


Martin graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1958 and pursued a 5 year apprentice program for carpentry through Olympic College. He went on to work for Bainbridge Better Builders for 45 years and was a well respected and talented carpenter who built numerous custom homes and commercial buildings on Bainbridge Island and Kitsap County.


In retirement he continued to provide services to long-time clients and spent time fishing, crabbing and tending to his home, yard and vegetable garden. Martin was an avid sports fan and enjoyed cheering on all of the Seattle teams. Martin was a devout parishioner of St. Cecilia Church, a cherished

neighbor, friend to many, and lovable Uncle to his many nieces and nephews.


Martin was preceded in death by his loving wife Brenda, his brother Arthur, his father-in-law Truman Van Bebber, and brothers-in-law Varian Wellbrock, and Charles Van Bebber, he is survived by his sister Marlene Wellbrock, mother-in-law Elizabeth Van Bebber, sisters-in-law Mary Mirkovich and Susan Van Bebber, nine nieces and nephews, and twelve grand nieces and nephews.


Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing and rosary on Monday evening, August 28th from

5:00 to 7:00pm. followed by a Funeral Mass on Tuesday, August 29th at 10:00am in St. Cecilia's Catholic Church 1310 Madison Avenue North Bainbridge Island, Wa. 98110, with a reception following in the church hall.


The Interment Service will be held on Wednesday August 30th at 11:00 am in Holyrood Cemetery 205 NE 205th Street, Shoreline, WA.


In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. Cecilia Catholic Church at the address above.


Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, WA.
