Mary Ann Champion

July 27, 1939 — September 14, 2022

The world lost an amazing person this month. Mary Ann Champion died at 83 of metastatic cancer on September 14 ,2022. She was born July 27, 1939 in Forest Hills, Queens, NY. to parents Leonard and Meta Muller.

She raised two sons as a single mother until she married Doctor William Champion in 1972. Doctor Champion later adopted her sons. The Champions celebrated their 50th anniversary on September 2, 2022.

Mary Ann was a remarkable person whose life was a series of random acts of kindness. Everyone who knew her, loved and respected that kindness.

She accomplished many feats during her life. She was proud that she led the Seattle Symphony Orchestra through two periods of serious financial crisis, had the first million dollar auction as president of PONCHO, resurrected the heart association heart ball and took incredible satisfaction in mentoring countless people in these and other organizations.

Preceded in death by her parents and her son Perry.

Survived by husband Bill, son Greg, stepson Michael, grandsons Douglas, Richmond and Benjamin, brother Len, sister Bobbie, Len and Bobbie’s children, and numerous other family members in the USA and Germany.

She was an outstanding person and all who knew her will miss her charming wit and happy smile.

There will be no service held at her request. She wanted anonymity but was anything but anonymous.

In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Seattle Symphony Orchestra on behalf of Mary Ann Champion.

Rest in Peace Mary Ann
