Mary Florence Jacobs, born in Chicago, Illinois on April 15, 1942, was the beloved daughter of Ted and Florence Kloeckner. She is survived by her husband, Dan Jacobs and her stepchildren, Laura Duet and Todd Jacobs. Dan and Mary were married for over 45 years.
Mary lived a very full and active life. She will be remembered for the kindness she showed to others. She believed strongly in social justice. This was reflected throughout her career in education, social service administration and her service as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bolivia. She wished to serve our country further by running as a Democratic Candidate for the United States House of Representatives from California’s Second Congressional District in 1994, but unfortunately was not elected.
Mary lived with her husband, Dan, for the past 20 years on Bainbridge Island. She was very active in the Women’s University Club of Seattle. She and Dan loved to take daily walks on the island, especially at Fort Ward and Battle Point. She loved reading, poetry, music, the arts, and supporting causes that she fervently believed in. She had a lovely sense of humor and was fun to be around. She was loved by many people and she loved many people, especially her husband Dan. She will be missed deeply.
Mary passed away on July 17, 2023 after a sudden illness.
