passed away on Saturday, June 2, 2007, at her home on Bainbridge Island, Washington. She was 86. She was born June 19th,1920, in Chicago, Illinois, daughter of James A. and Viola Edwards Howard. Millie received a bachelor's degree from the University of California at Fullerton College of the Arts. She moved to Bainbridge Island in 1992, at the age of 71 to do volunteer work for In Context magazine.She continued at Yes magazine until 2003, one of their longest-term volunteers. Milllie was an active member of Amnesty International. In 2005 she started a discussion group, Paradigm Shifters, for the Institute of Noetic Sciences, her latest passion. She was a member of the Unitarian Universalist Church and was an avid reader, journaler, and knitter.Millie will be remembered by her family and many friends for her feisty love of life, irreverent sense of humor, love of sharing information, and her endless and loving generosity to others. She is survived by her children; Nancy Scheffler, Douglas Smith and Kehaulani Gerhard. She also leaves behind her nephews, Brad (Nancy) and Todd Smith. There are three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Memorial Service on Saturday, June 9, 2007 at 4:00 PM at Grace Episcopal Church on Bainbridge Island, Washington (map).
