was born May 26, 1910, in Eagledale on Bainbridge Island. Her parents, Charles and Jennie Lundgren, were Swedish immigrants who came to Washington territory in 1888 and to Bainbridge in 1892. She was the youngest of eight children.Mildred attended island schools and in 1928 was in the first class to graduate from the new consolidated Bainbridge High School. After attending business college in Seattle, she was employed in the accounting department of Frederick and Nelson until her marriage in 1936 to Edgar Ostrand.Edgar and Mildred built their home at the head of Manzanita Bay on land home-steaded by his grandparents, and there they raised their family of three daughters, Jean Danielson (Donald) of Poulsbo, Joyce Start (Gene) of Idaho Falls, Idaho, and Susan Stack (John) of Bainbridge Island. In addition to her daughters, Mildred is survived by five grandchildren, Lori Danielson, Gary Danielson, Sharon Oliver, David Start, and Steven Start, fourteen great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.She was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church on Bainbridge. Her interests were in gardening, bird-watching and traveling, but mostly in her family. Edgar passed away in 1990. She continued living in the family home until she was 95. For the past two and a half years, she was well cared for at Martha & Mary Health Services in Poulsbo.A memorial service will be scheduled in the spring. Arrangements are by the Cook Family Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Martha & Mary, Bethany Lutheran Church, or the Kitsap Humane Society.
