February 5, 2020
Monica passed away peacefully on February 5, 2020. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, aunt and friend. Monica St John was born to Albert Thomas and Emily Marjorie Goodman in Suffolk, England. Soon after WWII, in her late teens, she traveled on a Holland America Ship to the USA to start a new life.
It was in Riverhead, Long Island, NY that she met and married Lloyd after losing her first husband, Ralph Jeffries. They were married in July of 1965. Lloyd, Monica and their family lived in Cherokee, North Carolina and Newport, Rhode Island before settling in Eugene, Oregon. Lloyd and Monica moved to Gig Harbor and opened a small English import and frame shop named Elldebees; finally settling on Bainbridge Island in 1990.
After moving to Bainbridge she loved gardening and kept a typically English Garden, volunteering for her church and spending time with her community of friends at Park Place.
Monica is survived and will be deeply missed by her daughter Leslie and David Carlsen of Bremerton; her son Malcolm and Charlene Brown of Shoreline; her grandchildren Tristan Brown of Washington DC, Emily Brown, Kari (Chris) Gray, Jennifer Carlsen, Keri Carlsen; great grandchildren, Markus, Timothy, William, Hayden, Sophie and Della, in the greater Puget Sound area; her nieces Diana Brown of Totnes, UK, and Maddy and Roy Norris of Mojacar Spain. In addition to her parents and her husband, Monica was predeceased by her two sisters Madge Long and Pamela Yeo Jenn.
We would like to thank Monica’s dear friends of Park Place and her church family of St Barnabas for all of their love, care and support of Monica.
A Celebration of Monica’s life will be held on Saturday February 22nd at 1:00 PM, St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 1187 Wyatt Way NW, Bainbridge Island, WA
