our precious mother, and the heartbeat and joy of our family, passed away on December 18, 2012 in peace at the age of 95. Holding the hands of her daughter Cathy and son Phil, Nell's heart's desire was fulfilled as she slipped from this life into the waiting arms of her beloved husband Harold and daughter Gwen.Nell was born in Asheville, NC, the daughter of Roy and Grace Davenport, and grew up with her brother Roy Jr., in Spartanburg, SC. In 1943 Nell met and married the love of her life, Harold Herzog. Nell's four children, Hal, Cathy, Gwen and Phil, were born in Miami, FL. When Harold took a job with Pan American flying out of New York's Kennedy International, the family moved to Glen Rock, NJ. Nell was deeply involved in her children's lives and activities, everything from dances to snakes to sports. She held the center of family life at home and on the infamous family camping trips.Nell and Harold retired to upstate New York, loving outdoor activities, gardening, her church family and their dachshund, Willie.In 2002 Nell and Harold moved to Poulsbo to live close to their children and grandchildren in their twilight years. They resided at Montclair Park Assisted Living until their deaths.Even at 95 Nell was a voracious reader and kept abreast of all current news events, ready to discuss everything from "Dancing with the Stars" to the presidential election.She was a champion for every one of her family members and friends. Joy and a lively sense of humor were the hallmarks of her life. Everyone who knew Nell was warmed by her graciousness and wit. She had a ready smile for everyone and a keen interest in the events of the lives of her children, grand- children and friends. Nell believed in the good in each of us and underscored her praises with the statement "…and That's the Truth!"Nell is survived by her children Hal, Jr., Cathy Puma and Phil; her grandchildren Alexis, Adam, Katie, Betsy, Matthew, Jonathan, Natalie, Kathleen and Anne; and her great grandchildren Ryland and Hailey.
