more affectionately known as Tad, 77, of Bainbridge Island, Washington passed away on May 7th, 2018. Tad was born in Brooklyn, NY October 1, 1941.He graduated from Bayside High School in Bayside, New York after which he continued on to receive a Bachelor of Science from Colgate University.Tad grew up in Douglaston, NY where he met his wife Karen at the town dock. Tad and Karen were married on September 26, 1964; andwere married for 52 years. Tad and Karen raised their family in Chappaqua, NY where they lived for over 30 years. Tad was an active member of the community. He served in the Chappaqua Volunteer Fire Department for 30 years (part of this time as Captain) and held an elected position on the Town Board. Tad alsoserved in the USMCR from October 1963 until June 1969 . He was honorably discharged as a Private First Class (E-5). While inthe Reserves, Tad earned the Rifle Expert Badge and the Good Conduct Medal.Tad worked for the New York Telephone Company (which eventually turned into Verizon) where he retired after 30 years. As active as Tad was in the community, he was even more active in his son's lives. He was involved in boy scouts with his two sons and served as Scout Master. His son Josh was a Junior Firefighter alongside him at the Chappaqua Fire Department and his son Chris was an honorary member. Tad was also involved in the Special Olympics. Tad loved to hike and organized yearly hiking trips for the scouts, his friends and family to Mt. Washington in New Hampshire. Following Josh, Lori and Justin's move to Bainbridge Island, WA., Tad, Karen and Chris made the move out westto join them in 2007. Tad was involved in the American Legion, Navy League, volunteered at the blood drive, and was a member of Bethany Lutheran Church.Tad will be forever missed and lovingly remembered by his family and friends. He was a selfless man who devoted his life to his son Chris and his family. He always had a smile on his face, a sparkle in his eye and a kind word to share. He often said how much he loved his life and all those around him. He spent the past 11 years surrounded in the comfort of seeing Chris settled into the community on Bainbridge Island, enjoying his two grandsons (and their numerous activities), gardening with his wife and creating wonderful memories with his son Josh.Tad is survived by Karen, his wife, Josh and Chris his sons, Justin and Kyle, grandsons, Lori, his daughter in law, Penny York, his sister and her family, Susan, Nancy, Patty, Judy and Johnathan, his sister and brother in laws and their families.A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday May 19, 20 18 at 1:00PM at Bethany Lutheran Church 7968 Finch Rd NE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to Bainbridge Island Special NeedsFoundation (also known as "Stephens House" where Chris is a member.) at the link below. www.bispecialneedsfoundation.orgArrangements are entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
