Patricia Ann Egaas, a treasured lifelong resident of Bainbridge Island, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on November 4, 2024. She is survived by her son David Egaas (Lorrie), daughter Diane Meyer (R.G.), and grandson Matthew Egaas. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, William Hockett.
Pat will be deeply missed as she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and community spirit.
Pat was born in Seattle on January 20, 1940, to Kendall and Meryl Hockett. The family moved from Ballard to Bainbridge Island in 1945 when her father and his partners opened Hocket & Olsen Bros auto repair.
Pat loved animals and felt fortunate to be raised in a country setting. As a teenager, she and her friends traveled the island on horseback, often riding along the banks of Highway 305 which was developed for the new Agate Pass Bridge that opened in 1957. Together, they were all active in the beginnings of The Bainbridge Island Saddle Club.
Pat graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1958 and married Roy Egaas in 1959. They enjoyed traveling together around the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, and the Scandinavian countries. They had many adventures flying together in their family airplane. After Roy’s passing, she continued to travel with a Lewy Body support group and later took European river trips with her daughter, Diane.
Pat was an accomplished photographer who consistently won awards, shared her knowledge, and inspired others. She was a long-time board member of The Bainbridge Island Camera Club and received a special honorary award, “The Heart and Soul of BICC,” in 2023.
For over 45 years, Pat was a devoted volunteer for the Annual Rotary Auction. She generously volunteered at the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum and was honored by the Kiwanis Club with their “Citizen of the Year Award” in 2004 for her community service. From 1965 to 1999, she cultivated and maintained vibrant flower beds at the corner of Wyatt and Madison for the community to enjoy. Between volunteer commitments, Pat enjoyed other hobbies, which included playing mahjong with friends, gardening, arts and crafts, sewing, and tennis.
Pat was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rolling Bay, dedicating time each month to prepare meals for the Super Suppers program. She generously provided photography services for numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center.
Her career included work at American Marine Bank and a CPA firm during tax season. She later became a partner and bookkeeper in the family business, Roy's Auto Specialty, and the Madison Avenue Car Wash.
For decades, Pat passionately worked on fundraising events as a member of P.E.O., Chapter F.A, a nonprofit charity organization that helps women advance through education.
To honor her passion, we ask that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to “Chapter FA, Judy Waterman Fund” and mailed to “Carol Leech, Treasurer Chapter FA, P.O. Box 4635, Rolling Bay, WA 98061. This scholarship fund provides financial assistance to young women in Kitsap County, helping them attend college and access opportunities that might otherwise be out of reach.
