Patricia Ann Egaas

January 20, 1940 — November 4, 2024

Bainbridge Island

Patricia Ann Egaas, a treasured lifelong resident of Bainbridge Island, passed away peacefully at home with family by her side on November 4, 2024.

She was born in Seattle on January 20, 1940, to Kendall and Meryl Hockett. The family moved to Bainbridge Island in 1945 from Ballard when her father and his partners opened Hocket & Olsen Bros. Auto Repair. Pat graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1958 and married Roy Egaas in 1959. She is survived by her son David Egaas (Lorrie), daughter Diane Meyer (R.G.), and grandson Matthew Egaas. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and brother, William Hockett.

As a teenager, Pat and her friends traveled the island on horseback often riding along the banks of Highway 305 created for the new Agate Pass Bridge that would open in 1957. All were active in the beginnings of The Bainbridge Island Saddle Club. Pat loved animals and felt fortunate to be raised in a country setting.

Pat's career included work at American Marine Bank and a CPA firm during tax season. She later became a partner and bookkeeper in the family business, Roy's Auto Specialty, and the Madison Avenue Car Wash. From 1965 to 1999, she cultivated and maintained vibrant flower beds at the corner of Wyatt and Madison for the community to enjoy.

Pat was an accomplished photographer who consistently won awards, shared her knowledge, and inspired others. She was a long-time board member of The Bainbridge Island Camera Club and received a special honorary award “The Heart and Soul of BICC” in 2023.

Other hobbies included computer graphics, playing mahjong with friends, gardening, arts and crafts, sewing, tennis, and travel. In addition, she had many adventures flying with her husband Roy in their family airplane.

For over 45 years, Pat was a devoted volunteer for the Annual Rotary Auction. She generously volunteered at the Bainbridge Island Historical Museum and was honored by the Kiwanis Club with the “Citizen of the Year Award” in 2004 for her community service. Pat was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Rolling Bay, and P.E.O. Chapter F.A. She generously provided photography services for numerous nonprofit organizations, including the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center.

Pat and Roy enjoyed travels around the US, Mexico, Costa Rica, and Scandinavian countries. After Roy's passing, she continued her adventures, traveling with a Lewy Body support group and later taking European river trips with her daughter, Diane.

For decades, Pat helped raise funds through the P.E.O. organization to support young women’s college dreams. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to “Chapter FA, Judy Waterman Fund” and mailed to “Carol Leech, Treasurer Chapter FA, P.O. Box 4635, Rolling Bay, WA 98061. This scholarship provides financial assistance for young women in Kitsap County to attend college—opening doors and providing opportunities they might not otherwise have.

Pat will be deeply missed as she leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, generosity, and community spirit.

We will be celebrating Pat's life at the Bainbridge Island Senior Community Center with an open house on Sunday, December 1st from 2:00 to 4:00 pm. Please join us at 370 Bjune Drive SE, Bainbridge Island, WA 98110.
