Paul Nelson Samek was born in Boston, MA, to Charles and Violet Samek on October 24, 1943, and passed away on December 11, 2021.
After graduation from high school in New Jersey, Paul received an appointment to the United States Coast Guard Academy in New London, CT, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree and a commission as Ensign. A twenty-year career serving as a surface operation officer in the Coast Guard followed.
Upon retirement, Paul relocated to the Pacific Northwest where he continued his education, earning a Master of Science degree in Technical Communications from the University of Washington. He spent the next 17 years as a technical writer for the Peterbilt Motors Division of PACCAR.
His second retirement provided time to take on some of his other interests. With Pamela, his wife of 53 years, he traveled the world, visiting places and people on all seven continents. He offered his time where needed, especially at PAWS, volunteering Friday afternoons in the adoption center. When he was at home, he enjoyed downtime and working in his garden.
In addition to his wife, Paul is survived by his sister Joan and nephew Mark, as well as extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and niece Anita.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank the medical staff, especially Dr. Vishnu, at St. Michael's Medical Center for their dedication, hard work, and kindness while treating Paul.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to PAWS or the Doney Memorial Pet Clinic.
Arrangements are entrusted to the Cook Family Funeral Home of Bainbridge Island, Washington.
