passed away Thursday, March 19, 2009 at the age of 82. Roger lived the last 4 years of his life in Poulsbo Washington with his beloved wife of 57 years, Gwen. He was born in Van Buren, Mo., September 30, 1926, the second son of Bill and Viola Rose. He was preceded in death by his parents and older brother Aldon. Roger graduated from Kern Union High School (Bakersfield, Ca) in 1944 and enlisted in the Navy in August of that year, serving aboard the USS Alcor as a Radioman for the duration of WWII. He married Gwen On September 7, 1951. They attended and graduated together from San Jose State in 1955. He and Gwen built their dream home in Aptos, Ca. where they lived before moving to Washington. Roger taught Middle School in San Jose for 31 years, retiring in 1988. Roger is survived by his wife; his niece Deni, her husband Ralph, her children Rachel, Christopher, Amber and Anthony and her four grandchildren; his nephew Arnie, his wife Setsuko, his children Alan and Krissy and his five grandchildren; Gwen's family, all locals from Bainbridge Island and Poulsbo; George McKinney, his wife Donna, his children Jeff and Mike and their families; Nancy Key, her husband Jerry, her daughter Erin and her family; Liz McKinney, her husband Bill Good, his children John and Shelly and their families; his former student and close friend Becky Medrano, her husband David, her children Roger, James and Jonathan and her five grandchildren, also survive Roger.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visitation on Saturday, March 21, 2009 at Cook Family Funeral Home from 12 Noon to 2:00 PM, 163 Wyatt Way NE on Bainbridge Island. The Memorial Service will follow at 4:00 PM at St. Barnabas Episcopal Church, 1187 Wyatt Way on Bainbridge Island [Directions]. In lieu of flowers, the family asked you to consider a donation to the National Parkinson's Foundation.
