died peacefully at Fir Acres Home, Bainbridge Island, on March 27. She was 84. Born January 12, 1928, in Lisbon, Maine, of French-Canadian descent, Rachel over the course of her life worked as a secretary at Walt Disney Studios, ran the first group foster home for teenage girls in San Mateo County, California, and volunteered as a docent at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Museum. She was married for 30 years to the late David M. Hopkins, a geologist and authority on the Bering Land Bridge. She is survived by three sons, Vincent Stanley of Santa Barbara, Calif., Christopher Stanley of Bainbridge Island, and Gregory Stanley of Vacaville, Calif.; two stepdaughters, Dana Hopkins of San Francisco, Calif., and Chindi Peavey of San Leandro, Calif. eight grandchildren, a great-grandson, her sister Doris Blackey of Chatsworth, Calif., and her brother Yvon Chouinard of Ventura, Calif.
