age 87, formerly of Belfair, Washington, passed away at Valley General Hospital on Friday, April 13, 2007.He was born January 25, 1920, on Bainbridge Island, Washington, to the late Raymond Walter and Shirley (Simmons) Hansen. He attended school on Bainbridge Island and graduated from high school in 1937. Raymond served in the U.S. Navy from 194 to 1946. He attained the rank of 1st Class Petty Officer and received the American Campaign, Victory, and Pacific Campaign medals. On May 25, 1941 he was united in marriage to Laila Karen Ingebrigtson on Bainbridge Island.Raymond helped with other friends to build the American Legion Hall on Bainbridge Island and served as the Commander of Post 172 for two years. He was a member of the Bainbridge Volunteer Fir Dept. for over 25 years holding the rand of Fireman, Lieutenant, Captain & Assistant Chief. He also spent 11 years as Fire Commissioner and was President of the Kitsap Fire Commissioners Association. 2 years as Scout Councilman and 7 years as Chairman of the American Legion Ambulance Assoc. were among some of his other accomplishments.Raymond attended the shipfitting apprenticeship at PSNS, Bremerton, Washington in 1940 and retired from the Shipyard in 1973 with 33 years and a rating of General Foreman. He was proceeded in death by his wife Laila, brother Bill and two sisters Karen Andrews and Evelyn Peterson.Raymond is survived by his sons; Ronald (Bobbie) of Belfair, Wa., Gary (Anna) of Bainbridge Island, Wa. and Bruce (Leta) of Belfair, Wa,; 6 grandchildren; Shane, Nikki, Jeana, Melanie, Corynn and Bret along with 5 great-grandchildren. Sisters Anita Armstrong of Bainbridge Island, Wa., and Marie Kelsey of Kingston, Wa., along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.Raymond is to be interned at Hillcrest Cemetery on Bainbridge island, Washington. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Bainbridge Island Fire District #1 or Hospice of Kitsap County.Arrangements through Cook Family Funeral Home.
