Robert Allen Stones

passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2007 at Harrison Hospital in Bremerton, Washington. He was 82 years of age and a resident of Bainbridge Island, WA.Bob was born on March 8, 1925 in Salt Lake City, Utah to Austin Alonzo Stones and Marian Ashbaugh. He was raised in Fruita, Colorado. In 1941 he was sixteen years old and was less then truthful about his age when he joined the Marines. He told them his birth year was 1924. He served at Guadalcanal, contracted malaria and was sent to New Zealand to recover. He ultimately ended up at Fort Ward on Bainbridge Island in 1944.He met and married Lois Rinaldo and later divorced. He later remarried Marilyn Sandburg. Bob owned his own business in Seattle, Washington where he built displays and exhibits. He made displays and handled exhibit work for the 1962 Seattle Worlds Fair. He later moved his business to Bucklin Hill Road on Bainbridge. He built and restored furniture from his Bucklin Hill Road business for 25 years. Bob was one of the original Bainbridge Island Saddle Club, long time member of the B.I. fire department.He is survived by his children; Kathy (Morrie) Blossom, Annette (Don) Radtke, Mike Chausee and Stepson Brian Sandburg. He also leaves behind his brothers; Douglas Stones (Margie) and Byron Stones. There are seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Robert will also be missed by his special companion, his dog Bucko. He was preceded in death by his mother and father, wife Marilyn, brother Raymond and sister Vivian.Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the Funeral Service on Thursday, November 1, 2007 at 4:00 PM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints - Bainbridge Island Ward, 8677 Madison Avenue NE on Bainbridge Island [Map]. Visitation will take place prior to the service, beginning at 3:00 PM. Interment will take place at Seabold Cemetery on Bainbridge Island.Arrangements by Cook Family Funeral Home.
