Bainbridge Island's Treasure and teaching icon passed away peacefully at his home on August 18. He is remembered for inspiring generations of Bainbridge High School and Olympic College students and workshop writers to read critically, write what they know, and act with passion. He was the most loving, considerate and generous husband to his wife, Merry, and dad to his four daughters: Anna, Kristin, Heidi and Molly.A community celebration directed by Bob himself will take place on Saturday, November 1st at 2-4pm at the Bainbridge High School Commons. Bob requested that guests wear colorful clothing and Converse tennis shoes if possible! In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's name to his preferred recipients: OXFAM, KUOW, Bainbridge Island Helpline, or IslandTime. Perhaps the best way to honor his memory would be to help a friend in need, which is what Bob did bestalthough he didn't speak publicly of it. If friends or former students came to him with financial difficulties, he always helped. Promise of repayment was made in good faith over a handshake; if it didn't work out, Bob accepted that without judgment. He would appreciate knowing that those who loved him are helping and caring for their friends.Arrangements entrusted to Cook Family Funeral Home.
