Lifelong Bainbridge Islander, passed away on January 2, 2009. He was born October 3, 1930 to Jacob B. and Selma H. Egaas. He grew up in the Rolling Bay and Seabold areas. He graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1948 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force serving from 1948-1952. He was a test flight mechanic on the B-36 with the 8th Air Force stationed at Rapid City, S.D. He married Patricia Hockett in 1959.In 1956 he opened and operated the Union Oil Service Station in Winslow. He operated Bainbridge Concrete Supplies from 1960-1962 and for a brief time worked as a carpenter and car agency manager before opening Roy's Auto Specialty, Inc. at Madison and Wyatt on Bainbridge Island in 1965. He was a Michelin tire dealer and specialized in front end alignments. In 1972 he added the first self-serve gasoline on Bainbridge Island and in 1976 added the Island's first fully automatic car wash. He retired from the auto repair business in 1992 and the car wash business in 1999. He will be greatly missed by the family he loved. He is survived by his wife; son David Egaas (Lorrie) and grandson Matthew Egaas, of Bellevue, WA; daughter Diane Meyer (RG) of Bainbridge Island; sisters Bernice Englund of Camas, WA, Norma Wiggins of Puyallup, WA and brother, Stan Egaas, of Clatskanie, OR; six nephews and one niece.Airplanes were his lifelong passion. In the late 1950s he was a charter member of the Bainbridge Island Flying Club which operated from Raber Field (presently the Meadowmeer area) on Bainbridge Island. He owned Cessna seaplanes which he flew from Eagle Harbor and later a land plane based at Apex Airpark in Silverdale. He enjoyed traveling to airplane museums and could name and talk about every airplane he encountered. He loved to share his flying experiences with other pilots and enjoyed hearing their stories as well. He joined the Bainbridge Island Rotary Club in 1966, was a past President and an active member in the annual Bainbridge Island Rotary Auction. He was an excellent carpenter and remodeled his home, his business and other buildings. He and Pat enjoyed their travels to Norway to visit relatives, cruises, hiking adventures and traveling around the United States in their motor home. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, January 10, 2008 at 2:00 PM at the Seabold United Methodist Church. A reception will follow at the church hall.Inurnment will be at Kane Cemetery, Bainbridge Island. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Lewy Body Dementia Association, Inc. P. O.
