BAINBRIDGE ISLAND

Stan Van Eps, 71, of Bainbridge Island, WA, passed away on January 18, after a long battle with cancer. He was born on February 1, 1953, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.

He is survived by his wife of over 51 years, Sandra (Wayenberg), his son Stace Van Eps, his daughter, Sarah Cox and his son-in-law Ron Cox.

Stan graduated from Soap Lake High School in 1971 followed by 6 years in the US Navy. A submariner, he served 4 years on the USS Parche spending time in Mississippi, South Carolina, and California. In 1984 he graduated from the University of Idaho with degrees in accounting, finance, and computer science. Bainbridge Island became home in 1987 when he went to work at Seafirst National Bank/ Bank of America. After 14 years he switched careers to work in government starting with Health and Human Services, then finishing his career with the Department of Veterans Affairs. Stan was proud of his service in both the Navy and his contribution to the veteran’s administration. Stan retired in December of 2024.

Working from home, Stan enjoyed sitting in his father-in-law’s hand-me-down 50-year-old lazy-boy with a computer on his lap, and sometimes a cat. When he needed fresh air he escaped to a friend’s cattle ranch in Montana for branding and preg testing. In his earlier years, he enjoyed pheasant hunting with a couple of trips to South Dakota. In the last 10 years, he was thrilled to finally make it to Europe, he made three trips with his wife.

Services for Stan will be at the Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent, WA on Tuesday, February 4, at 2:30 pm. In remembrance of his love of flannel shirts, please join us in wearing one for his services.
