Walter Anton Kniginyzky

Walter Kniginyzky, a beloved resident of Bainbridge Island, WA, passed away peacefully on July 7, 2024, after his battle with Glioblastoma. He was 69 years old.

Walt was born in Toronto Canada on April 14, 1955, the son of William and Julia Kniginyzky. Walt moved to the United States for track and field scholarships at the University of Texas and later Lamar University, graduating with a Masters in Health and Physical Education. It was at Lamar University where he met his wife, Lisa. After living in Texas and Oklahoma for a few years they moved to Bainbridge Island in 1986.

Throughout his life, Walt was known for his competence and willingness to be of service. He had a wonderful sense of humor and made everyone feel comfortable around him. He had a passion for sports of all kinds and excelled in almost any sport he attempted, including star quarterback for his high school team, volleyball, baseball, hockey and he was a javelin thrower in college. He shared his love and expertise in sports enthusiastically with his friends and family. Walt also loved the outdoors, camping and hiking with his family After a long career in sales he was also admired for his dedication as the Facilites Manager at St. Cecelia's Catholic Chruch, where he made significant contributions over his 17 years before retiring.

In addition to his professional achievements, Walter was a supportive husband and father and would do anything for his family. He is survived by his wife Lisa, daughter Laura, son Paul and brother Roman (Pat), all of whom loved him and will miss him dearly. Walter touched the lives of all who knew him, leaving a lasting impression.

A memorial service to celebrate Walter's life will be held at St. Cecelia's on August 22, 2024, at Noon, with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to United Help Ukraine https://unitedhelpukraine.org/, in honor of Walter's memory.
