WALLS - Walter Scott III, M.D.

August 13, 1938 - January 29, 2023

"Scott" entered into rest on January, 29, 2023, at age 84. Beloved husband of Ellen (née Laidlaw) Walls for 61 years, loving father of Susan Walls and Rebecca (Bryan) Baker, devoted grandfather to Ella and Clyde Baker, dear brother of Lisbeth Walls and Margaret (Earle) Hamilton and cherished uncle to Warren (Dawn) Stanek.

Scott was born and raised in Buffalo, NY, son of Walter Scott Walls II, M.D. and Lisbeth (Lister) Walls. He was a great grandson of Erastus Cole Knight who was Mayor of Buffalo from 1902-1905 and New York State Comptroller in 1901 as well as a great grandson of Samuel G. Dorr, M.D., who served two terms as police surgeon and was appointed Postmaster of Buffalo by President McKinley in 1899.

After graduating from The Park School of Buffalo, Class of 1956, Scott attended Cornell University where he was a member of the Big Red crew team as well as Theta Chi Fraternity and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in 1961. Following his marriage that summer, he attended the University at Buffalo School of Medicine where he chose to pursue a residency and fellowship in Obstetrics and Gynecology. He served as a Major in the Medical Corp of the United States Army and was awarded the Army Commendation Medal in 1972.

Scott joined the Hamburg OB-GYN Group (Peck, Gregory, Walls & Muscato) in Hamburg, NY as a Board Certified Physician of Obstetrics and Gynecology (FACOG), where he worked for over 25 years through his affiliations with South Buffalo Mercy Hospital, Children's Hospital of Buffalo and Buffalo General Hospital.

Following a fulfilling career bringing the joy and gift of life into this world for so many, he volunteered as a docent at The Buffalo Zoo where he enjoyed educating and exposing local elementary school children to a variety of animals before retiring to Bainbridge Island, WA., where he spent the remainder of his life as a devoted grandfather.

A man of vast knowledge and interests (our walking encyclopedia), he always had the answer and could educate you on almost anything. He was a gifted photographer, lover of all wildlife, a military historian, an aviation aficionado, an amateur ornithologist, an extraordinary gardener, a sport fisherman, a travel enthusiast, an avid collector, and a lifelong, diehard fan of the Buffalo Bills as well as the Buffalo Sabres.

Scott was known for his humility and integrity. He had a special way of making you laugh when you least expected it. Above all, he was an incredibly caring soul who showered people with love and kindness. Scott fought a courageous battle against Parkinson's Disease for 12 years and will be dearly missed.

Contributions in Scott's memory may be made to The Park School of Buffalo at: theparkschool.org, The Buffalo Zoo at: buffalozoo.org, or The Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research at: give.michaeljfox.org.
