Warren H. Gross was born in Walla Walla in 1940 and has held it in a special place while his work took him around the world. He graduated from Whitman College in 1962 and married Mary Lee, a fellow Whitmanite in 1963. After an active duty stint in the Navy, he stayed in the reserves retiring as a Commander. His first jaunt into International banking was overseeing the opening and management of Seattle's First National Bank of their Tokyo branch. After 3 years he, with his family, spent several more years in Seattle before going to Spokane to work with commercial banking customers and then to Dallas to head the Southeast Asia region for Republic Bank. From Dallas, they moved back to Spokane where he was a part of the group that brought Public Radio to the area and was involved with the Spokane Symphony Organization and several other nonprofit groups.
As he marched through these areas, he developed deep and lasting friendships with childhood friends, Whitman College friends, and business associates based on respect for his intelligence, honesty, and wit. He will be greatly missed by his wife, his son Eric, his daughter Mary, their spouses Gloria and Joshua, and his grandchildren Aria and Liam.
