Warren John Gill

January 29, 1929 — November 12, 2023

Warren John Gill , a much loved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and great great grandfather, passed away peacefully on November 12th, 2023, with his granddaughter Deborah by his side.

He was the son of Claude Gill and Ella Bornhoft. Warren is survived by his daughter Karen, daughters-in-law Janet (Harry) and Judy, Five grandchildren; Deborah (Brad), Kathy, Steve (Diana), Scott and Dean, Twelve great grandchildren; Stacie (David),

Megan, Kristin, Matthew, Nicholas, Victoria, Kaleb (Emilee), Chelsey (Matt), Austin, Ty, Emma and Avalee and Five great-great grandchildren; Liam, Avery, Riley, Kaiya and Axel.

Warren was born in Seattle on January 29, 1929 where he lived for 2.5 years. His family moved to Long Beach, CA for work when he was young and then moved to Westside Iowa to live with and take care of his grandparents. Following the death of his mother,

Warren and his father moved back to Long Beach where he completed high school at Lake Elsinore Military Academy. He enjoyed playing cornet in the school band and baseball. He was taught the importance of a good work ethic, integrity and discipline

with love which he passed on to his children and grandchildren by example.

Warren served in the U.S. Navy, going through basic flight training, aircraft gunnery training and was deployed to Naval Station Agana, Guam towards the end of World War II.  After the war he worked for North American Aviation in their new aircraft flight test

operations and was later assigned to Edwards Air Force Base where he was part of flight test development of the F100 fighter for the Air Force. Grandpa loved everything related to aircraft!

Warren went on to work for Solar Turbines for 21 years, starting as a field service engineer then to design development, implementation and Director of gas turbine overall facilities in the US and Europe. After retiring from Solar, he worked for Creole Production Services for 18 years and then started his own consulting business providing engineering and overhaul support for the next 18 years. He was known for rolling up his sleeves and getting in the engine pit regardless of his job title. His technical expertise, work ethic and commitment left a lasting impact in his field, earning the respect of his colleagues and peers.

Warren was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. His faith and activity in the church was an integral part of his life. He served in various leadership positions.

Warren loved everything about planes and cars, gadgets, how everything worked and could fix anything. If you ever asked him to help you fix something you would come away with a fixed object and a thorough education about the hows and whys.

Grandpa always stated that the most significant and wonderful occurrence in his life started in 1964 when he met, fell in love and then married his beautiful wife, Lorna Wilson. They were married for 51 years before she passed in 2017. He often said his other blessing was raising their granddaughter, Deborah.

Warren will be remembered for his spunky personality, adventurous spirit, affectionate nature, giving heart and integrity in all he did.

But most of all, grandpa’s heart was filled with love for his family and friends, and he cherished the moments spent with them or talking to them on the phone. His smile would light up a room when he spoke of any of his “kids”. He will be deeply missed and

fondly remembered by all who have had the privilege of knowing him and loving him.
